Sustainability & Ethics
The Principles That Shape Our Practice
Luxury, in our view, must be beautiful and responsible in equal measure. Sustainability at Luminesse is not a marketing claim – it is a structural commitment embedded in how we source, produce, and deliver every piece.
100% Lab-Grown Gemstones
Our diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds are all laboratory-grown. This eliminates the environmental devastation of open-pit and underground mining: no deforestation, no soil erosion, no waterway contamination, and no displacement of communities. Lab-grown stones also bypass the complex, often opaque supply chains that make mined gemstones difficult to trace from origin to market. With Luminesse, you know exactly where your stone begins.
Recycled Precious Metals
We use recycled 14K and 18K gold and platinum, sourced from certified refiners. Recycled precious metals are chemically identical to newly mined ore but require significantly less energy and water to produce, generate far fewer carbon emissions, and completely avoid the social and ecological harms associated with large-scale mining.
Made to Order, Zero Waste
We hold no inventory of finished jewelry. Every piece is made to order, crafted specifically for the person who will wear it. This eliminates overproduction, unsold stock, and the waste that accompanies seasonal, trend-driven fashion cycles. It also means every piece receives our undivided attention.
Eco-Conscious Packaging
Your jewelry arrives in packaging that reflects our values: boxes made from recycled and FSC-certified paper, printed with plant-based inks, and designed to be kept and reused. We use absolutely no single-use plastics in our packaging. Even our shipping mailers are compostable or recyclable.
Carbon-Neutral Delivery
We calculate the carbon footprint of every shipment from our atelier to your door and offset it through verified carbon offset programs. Our logistics partners are selected for their commitment to reducing environmental impact.
Transparent, Ethical Labor
We work directly with a small network of growing facilities, cutters, and goldsmiths, many of whom we have personal relationships with. Our production centers in China operate under fair labor standards, and we visit them regularly. We believe that the people who create beautiful things deserve safe conditions, fair wages, and respect.
Continuous Improvement
We do not claim to be perfect. We claim to be committed. We continuously review our processes, materials, and partners to improve our environmental and social performance. When you choose Luminesse, you join us on that journey.
